Movie : The Birth of a Nation (1915)

In its time, "The Birth of a Nation" was a masterpiece. Its racist undertones and revisionism are quite disturbing, but it is still worth watching for its historical influence.

I worked in a 103-year old theatre until recently. One day while rooting around I discovered a stack of screen-printed movie posters advertizing "Birth of a Nation" from 1915 -- many in virtually perfect condition -- stacked on top of an air conditioning duct. I used to find stuff like that all the time. Tickets from 1909, hand-painted vaudeville lobby cards. Good times.
