Movie : Flip The Frog - Fiddlesticks (1930)

Flip the Frog was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's first sound cartoon. It is about a happy-go-lucky, needy frog, named Flip the Frog.

This cartoon was created by Ub Iwerks in 1930. He had drawn a frog and his girlfriend in "Night'", one of the last Silly Symphonies short films he drew while working for Walt Disney.

After leaving Disney, Ub Iwerks began the Flip cartoon series with the help of Pat Powers. The first cartoon that Ub Iwerks made for the series was called Fiddlesticks (released on August 16, 1930), and it was also the first color sound cartoon ever made. Fiddlesticks was made in two-color Technicolor. The rest of the Flip series were made in black and white, except for Techno-Cracked (1933).

Movie : Satanic Rites of Dracula

Stars Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee as Dracula

The film is the eighth Hammer film featuring Dracula, and the seventh film to star Lee in the title role, and a sequel to Dracula AD 1972, with action which follows up on the previous Hammer Dracula film without being dependent on it.

The original score was composed by television composer John Cacavas. In the United States, the film was distributed as Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride. It is also marketed with the tagline "Evil begets evil on the sabbath of the undead!"

plot:

In London in the 1970s, Scotland Yard police investigators think they have uncovered a case of vampirism. They call in an expert vampire researcher named Van Helsing (an ancestor of the great vampire-hunter himself, no less) to help them put a stop to these hideous crimes. It becomes apparent that the culprit is Count Dracula himself, disguised as a reclusive property developer, but secretly plotting to unleash a fatal virus upon the world.

here is what spuzz said about this
While I was a bit leery of watching this, thinking I'd be bored silly of the constant vegan talk going on (which it does normally), this provided a fascinating account of the production of 'Nutralite" an additive supposedly made only with Alfafa, and other herbs and vitamins and lord only knows what else. But the production of Alfafa is featured here, it's grown, chopped, composted, dried and beaten into a pulp until it's mixed with other ingredients. (The exact combination is secret of course, as the narrator SHOWS where this is done, but we never go inside) soon, the stuff is mixed with minerals and then either put into pills or pulverized into a tablet format. Very interesting production shots shown here. Of course, what Nutralite is good for, is never really explained. Guess I'll have to talk to my Nutralite rep about it (after all, he is a member of my community!) Highly recommended!

T.V. : the Master (Lee Van Cleef) #3

How about another episode of the Master? Thanks goes to Mark for pointing this one out on the archive.

This is the third episode of the short-lived 1980's series "The Master" (aka Master Ninja). It stars Lee Van Cleef as an ageing Ninja who returns to the US from Japan to search for his missing daughter. Superstar ninja, Sho Kosugi appears as his nemesis and was fight choreographer/stunt arranger for the series.

Issues 2-5 feature:
Golden-Age Batman (versus the Joker-Penguin team)
Flash (v Trickster--who admits he's in love with his nemesis, literally coming out of the closet to do so! Don't you love out-of-context pages and panels?)
Silver-Age Green Lantern (v Doctor Light)
Golden-Age GL (Solomon Grundy's first appearance!)
Vigilante (v The Dummy)
Golden-Age Hawkman/Hawkgirl (v The Human Fly Gang)
Doctor Fate (v A Purple Fish-Headed Guy With A Flamethrower! I can't make this stuff up)
Kid Eternity (v his heavy-smoking opposite, Master Man)
Doll Man (v The Iron Mask--Doll Man had the best lurid, corpse-strewn stories next to The Spirit)
...plus ads for hippie ecology patches, SSP Racers, hypno-coins, the coolest model kits ever made, skin head wigs (...WHAT), and the classics "The Day Bill Told Off His Boss!" and "The Insult That Made A Man Out Of Mac!"

Much of the Golden-Age content is either drawn or inked by Joe Kubert.
