Tex Granger was based on a character from the comic Calling All Boys while the plot was taken from The Last Frontier (1926), which was itself based on the novel of the same name by Courtney Ryley Cooper. Tex Granger is the first story in this issue of "Calling All Boys".
Magazine Press later published the Tex Granger comics.
