Questions for the weekend

I've got two questions for the weekend - totally unrelated to each other. Both of these involve the Blog and it's future. One is just for fun the other a bit more serious (for some surfers at least) please feel free to comment on either or both. (Anonymous comments are ok by me)

1. Changing the name of the blog. I have decided to put a bit of a spin on the name of the blog - what do you think? 'Beware, There's a Crosseyed Cyclops in my Basement' Its a bit corny and in the retro scifi/horror spoof/pun category. Too much??? Should I go for the 'Attack of the Mysterious Atomic Radioactive Crosseyed Cyclops from another world'? (ya that one is probably too much) I'm open to any input and also open to other suggestions - the only thing is the title must included Crosseyed Cyclops. - NOTE this will NOT affect the actual webaddress of this site - nearly the header. Thanks for helping out on a rather trivial matter.

2. Preview pics. I have posted so many pictures of covers/posters and what not that I have come close to running out of memory on my personal google account. I am going to be using offsite places to host links in order to alleviate some of this problem (Youll still see pictures on the posts when i do this but the load time for the pictures may differ) but i want to also ask - would you still download from a post if it had no picture at all?

Also take note - this is a 'sticky' post that will last up on top of the blog list for a few days - new stuff will continue to be posted below.

thanks and enjoy the site! ~ Zen Tiger

Hi Zen Tiger. Thanks again for all the fantastic posts on your blog. For your first question, I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for a title change. For your second question, I would definitely still download from a post if it had no picture at all.

Part #1 reply:

Crosseyed Cyclops the Ripper (Fav)
Satanic Rites of Crosseyed Cyclops

Part #2
I have the same problem with my Atemi Cast site. I use photobucket and it seems to work well. Yes I would download with out pics. You write very good discriptions. :P

"Eye Chart For A Crosseyed Cyclops"
"Dr. Crosseyed Cyclops' Go-Go Chamber Of Ghoulish Goodies"
"Who's Afraid Of The Crosseyed Cyclops?"
"Kiss Of The Crosseyed Cyclops"
"Doc Crosseyed: The Cyclops Of Bronze"
"That Was No Crosseyed Cyclops, That Was My Wife"

I would prefer a thumbnail pic; that's been a deciding factor for a few of these files.

Thanks for everything!

Hey man - love the site and the current title.

But do what ya gotta do - just stay happy.

The Call of the Cross-Eyed Cyclops?

I actually like the current name, and as for thumbnails i dont think they would matter much. Comics for example, the cover is so often done by someone other than the interior artist that you get no idea what the inside looks like from the thumbnail.

ICBM
I see a bug-eyed monster.

A thumbnail pic would help.

Regarding 1:

Keep it simple, keep it awesome.

I'd rename it just "Crosseyed Cyclops" - for this name alone is a riot, and I ROFL'd the first time I read it!

Regarding 2:
At least thumbnails. Remember you have people from all over the world at any age who can't know them all.
A thumbnail helps to find out if that comic meets the personal taste of your visitor.

My two (euro)cents,
Glombastu

#1. Try "X-eyed Cyclops"?

#2. You could put preview pics on an image sharing site like shareapic or imagebam, then link to those. If that isn't feasible, then you could limit preview pics to the more obscure stuff. I mean, we all know what Marvels and DCs look like, right? (If all else fails, just forgo them entirely.)

#2, part 2. Better yet -- since many comics covers are ALREADY online somewhere (like the Grand Comics Database), you could simply link to those.

Ditto Glombastu's comment. I like simply "Crosseyed Cyclops" - additional words detract from a brilliant concept

And I think you've got to have eye candy. I'd like to say, people won't care... but I think you need at least a thumbnail if at all possible.

I'll answer only your 2nd question.

Since most of your material is visual (comics, TV shows and films - NOT mp3 and programs/software) I think it is very important to have pics on your posts. Even more so since you deal with retro stuff i.e one might forget the title of a comic or film but still be able to recognise it from the pic in the post. In other words: PLEASE keep the pics!

THANK YOU for all the wonderful stuff you give us.

I like the 2nd type option for the name but if you put too much into the title, the whole Crosseyed Cyclops thing may get lost in the shuffle.

Thumbnails would be good.

FROM DAVE-hey zen! i thought of some more possible names for the site.

island of crosseyed cyclops
land of crosseyed cyclops
leauge of crosseyed cyclops
the extrodinary crosseyed cyclops

house of crosseyed cyclops
tales of crosseyed cyclops
mystery of the crosseyed cyclops
journey of the crosseyed cyclops
vengence of crosseyed cyclops
world of crosseyed cyclops
mysterious realm of crosseyed cyclops
crosseyed cyclops the wizard
visions of the crosseyed cyclops

Re: Question #1

I still like "Crosseyed Cyclops". It's short and clean; adding more verbiage makes it feel kinda bloated, IMO.
Maybe use a retro-horror movie poster font, or turn it into a pre-code comic cover title if you want to punch it up a bit?

Question #2

I'd prefer to see pics, or at least thumbnails. Your descriptions are great, but even a great description can convey only so much about the obscure, hard-to-find treasures you specialize in.

Besides, I'd miss the ineffable thrill of idly clicking on your blog's bookmark, scrolling around, and having every single neuron in my brain suddenly stop dead in its tracks because you just posted the cover of something that, as a kid, I feverishly dreamt of getting my hands on, but was always hopelessly, painfully unobtainable.

Which reminds me: I've never thanked you for that. Your blog (and your posts at Dmnoid) have in a real sense given me the childhood I always wanted, but never had. Thanks, Zen Tiger.

Honestly, and all kidding aside, Zen, I would go with "Lair of the Crosseyed Cyclops".

Also, there must be thumbnails at the very least. There are plenty of free image hosting sites.

As a slight aside, I would say that once the current week's posts are in, perhaps an archive can be created to combine all offerings for one *magazine*. An example would be to remove all covers for FMOF mags, and have only one archived post for FMOF with one thumbnail or full-sized image. That should save quite a bit of space.

Let me know what you think and I will be glad to help. You have my email addy, I believe ; )

Im slow getting back and actually commenting to this one but I wanted to say thanks for all the great responces! I used the input already (obviously) Nothing like getting this type of feedback though - thanks again

Old piles of good sh... stuff

These are spotlighted items - not always 'old' because of when they were made but rather these are things that were posted awhile ago on this blog and have been 'archived' in the back.

I hope you enjoy the site!
